Showdown In The Downtown
The Showdown in the Downtown was founded in 2009 by Dr. Faisal Rehman. The initial purpose of this yearly charitable event was to raise research funds for The Matthew Mailing Centre for Translational Transplant Studies and the Lilibeth Caberto Kidney Clinical Research Unit. However, given the tremendous success of this event, the beneficiaries have expanded to help alleviate homelessness, mental health conditions, and to help serve special needs populations.
This yearly event primarily features combat sports events involving amateur and professional Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts. The event simulates a Las Vegas like atmosphere with food, drink and an amazing silent auction. The Showdown has also featured musical concerts with acts like Jim Cuddy, Chantal Kreviazuk, Our Lady Peace and Jann Arden. Over 14 years, the Showdown has raised over $2.85 million for a variety of charities.

After all expenses paid, we raised $225,382 from our Showdown in the Downtown event on Dec 15, 2023 at RBC Place. This is a blessing and I want to thank all of you and everyone on the Showdown Organizing Committee, Muay Thai Ontario, Prospect Fighting Championships and everyone who donated time, money and auction items for the event. I also want to thank our Title Sponsor Dominos Pizza Canada Ltd and their leaders Michael Curran and Michael Schlater for believing in us. Our Super-Heavy weight Sponsor Geoff Smith and EllisDon have always had our back as well. We had numerous other sponsors without whom we could not have had this event. We have now crossed $3 million raised over 15 years.

The “Showdown in the Downtown” is back for another action-packed evening of fundraising to fight kidney disease with advanced research and to improve patient outcomes after solid organ transplantation.
This year’s event will be held:
FRIDAY, DEC. 15th, 2023 @ 5:00pm at RBC Place London.
Showdown will feature an exceptional mingling, dining, and an exciting Muay Thai combat sports card for you and your valued guests.
The opening round features complimentary refreshments, tasty tidbits, and a chance to meet friends of kidney research. There will also be lots of great donated items for the silent auction and a raffle for your bidding pleasure.
We will then sit down for a delicious three course plated dinner and dessert followed by the main event – combat fights sanctioned by Muay Thai Ontario!
